ATLANTIC01 / THE IDEA
Farflung is a daily geography game built around a pleasing question: can you think of a correct country that is not the first answer everyone expects? Each expedition contains five prompts. You choose a country for each one and locate it on the world map. Several answers can fit, so finding a valid answer is only the beginning.
The distinctive part of Farflung is rarity. A familiar correct answer earns distance, while a less obvious correct answer carries your expedition further. This makes a short geography quiz feel like a small act of exploration. You are testing both what you know about a country and whether you can find it.
This is an independent Farflung guide, with a direct route to the game at farflung.game. The game is made by Steve and published by Farflung LLC. Sites using a similar name can have different rules; the information here refers to that official geography game.
02 / GET YOUR BEARINGS
Open Farflung and choose the daily expedition. You can play as a guest. Before committing a daily answer, get comfortable with moving around the map; precision matters most when you are looking for a small country.
Look for the condition that makes an answer valid. A language, a border or another detail can change which countries qualify. Keep a reliable candidate in mind while you consider alternatives.
Tap or click the map to position your pin. Move it if needed, and zoom in before choosing a tiny area. Check the country name shown beneath the pin when that assistance is enabled.
Confirm the selection with Drop pin. There is one submitted answer per prompt, so treat this as the decision point. Continue through all five prompts to finish the expedition.
Review your result and the other answers after the expedition. The useful discovery is often a country you never considered. Notice why it qualifies, rather than remembering only its name.
On a computer, use the mouse to position your pin and scroll to zoom. On a phone, tap to choose a location and pinch to zoom. The official keyboard instructions describe arrow keys for panning, plus and minus for zooming, and Space or Enter to submit a placed pin after focusing the map. For the exact current controls, consult the official playing instructions.
03 / THE LESS EXPECTED ANSWER
Correct answers fall into five named tiers. The sequence below moves from the familiar toward the least expected. Farflung is both the game's name and its highest rarity. A surprising top-tier answer is called a gem.
Think of rarity as a property of an answer to a particular prompt, not a permanent label attached to a country. A place that is surprising for one clue could be an obvious choice for another. A small or distant country does not automatically earn the best result.
Your first job is to satisfy the clue. Only then does it make sense to search for a more unusual answer. An obscure country that does not qualify is still a miss. For a useful decision habit, compare two candidates: explain why each fits, then consider which one a player is less likely to think of.
Farflung rewards a thoughtful connection between the clue and the map. You do not need to know every country to enjoy it. Recognising one overlooked possibility can make an expedition memorable, even when the rest of your answers are familiar.
04 / MAKE IT A DAILY DETOUR
A new Farflung expedition opens at midnight in your local time. If friends live in different time zones, compare the date on the game before comparing a clue or result.
The Farflung Archive currently offers the previous seven days. A late expedition is recorded, but does not repair a streak. Open Archive on the game's home screen to see available dates.
The official FAQ currently says unlimited mode is not available yet. Some search results advertise “Farflung unlimited” while linking to a different game origin. Do not assume their prompts, scoring or progress match the official version.
For a low-pressure introduction, the official game has a repeatable practice round. That is different from an endless supply of new daily expeditions. Use practice to understand the map, the archive to catch a recently missed day, and the daily game for the shared challenge.
Feature check: 1 November 2026. Games evolve; the official interface and rules take precedence.
05 / NOTES FROM THE MAP
A clue about a language might ask for official status rather than everyday use. A clue about geography might refer to a border, a river or a particular region. Before selecting a country, put the condition into your own words. If you cannot explain why your answer fits, reconsider it.
Start with a country you are confident about, then look for alternatives. This keeps exploration purposeful. When you enable a timer, a reliable candidate is especially useful: you can return to it instead of making a hurried guess in the final moments.
If the first answer feels too obvious, mentally move through another part of the world. Consider neighbouring countries, island nations and places you have learned about recently. Use the clue to guide that search. Randomly choosing an unfamiliar name rarely teaches you much.
Knowing a country fits and placing the pin correctly are two different skills. Zooming in is a simple way to protect a good answer. If two countries share a short border or a narrow coastline, check the selected name before submitting. Use the available assistance while learning.
After your Farflung expedition, choose one answer you missed and remember the fact that connects it to its clue. That is more useful than collecting a list of names. Over time, these small connections give you more possibilities to consider on future days.
06 / BEFORE YOU SET OFF
The official Farflung daily game is free to play in a browser, and you can start as a guest without downloading an app. The official FAQ says a mobile app is planned. Until it is released, use the browser game on your phone or computer.
Finish the official Farflung expedition to review its answers at camp. This guide deliberately leaves today's solution unspoiled. When consulting an external answer page, check its date and game origin first: a similarly named version may use a different set of prompts.
The official game opens on its own website. This page helps you get started and links directly to it. We do not present an unofficial copy as the original, and your daily game progress stays with the game you open.
The game has changed over time, and some pages describe other versions. The current official instructions say you can play without a clock or enable a 60-second clock in Difficulty. Check that menu before beginning, especially if you are returning after a break.
Use the official game's rulings rather than assuming every map label is a separate answer. Its guide explains, for example, that Greenland counts as Denmark. Read the official rulings when a border or territory makes a clue ambiguous.
The official website links to the game's community accounts, including r/farflung. When discussing an expedition, mention its date and warn before revealing countries. Comparing the reasoning after everyone has played keeps the daily discovery enjoyable.
